Like a tweenager heading to a Bieber concert, I was super excited for a night out at Treadwell restaurant. I am such a fan of talented chefs that a night of fine dining is a very special event for me.
Treadwell is an intimate venue with limited tables, so I wasn’t surprised to hear they only had room for us at the Kitchen Table. Fine by me! Sitting at the long bar around the open kitchen was the perfect spot for my Chief Researcher and I to watch the masters at work.
The atmosphere was festive with many beautiful desserts being delivered to tables adorned with birthday candles. Treadwell restaurant obviously has a reputation for being a lovely place to celebrate a special occasion.
For the size of the restaurant, it appeared very well staffed and the service was friendly and attentive. They seemed knowledgable about the food and happily suggested alternatives for our many food allergies, which include gluten, nuts, and seafood.
The wine selection was extensive and the in-house sommelier suggested delicious pairings with all our courses.
For first course, my Chief Researcher enjoyed the Orecchiette with Butternut Squash, Housemade Sausage, Pickled Apple and Sage Brown Butter.
I started my food affair at Treadwell with the Pan Seared East Coast Sea Scallop with Pumpkin Seed Risotto, Crispy Lamb Belly, Charred Squash Puree, and Candied Pumpkin Seeds (see the drool-worthy feature image at the top of this post). The richness of the sea scallop with the crisp lamb belly and sweet, earthy pumpkin puree met my expectations of this divine dish.
Our night continued with more amazing dishes. For mains, Chief Researcher ordered the Sesame & Hoisin Glazed Beef Short Ribs with Mustard Potato Puree, Vegetables, and Pickled Red Onion.
My main was the Citrus & Chilli Pork Loin with Crispy Pork Belly, Black Beans, and Fried Polenta. Both dishes were so good that we ended up sharing them. However, the Pork Loin was our favourite dish with the flavours of the smoky black beans and citrus and chilli marinade being a total winner.
The portions were quite generous for a fine dining establishment and we were pretty satisfied after mains, but did manage to sample a plate of beautiful local cheeses paired with a late harvest reisling, as well as a deconstructed S’More.
From start to finish our night at Treadwell restaurant was a pleasure. I can’t wait to come back. I will be the one at the Kitchen Table asking for autographs. Rock on!
