Wandering to downtown St Catharines to catch a film and enjoy a local Niagara wine with my popcorn is such a treat.
The Film House at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre is the only licensed cinema in the Niagara Region, so you can have a proper grown-up night out.
This is a perfect date night option, as you can also take advantage of the great selection of restaurants and bars in downtown St Catharines before and after the film. Or, if you’re craving something sweet, I suggest stopping in for dessert at Hometown Ice Cream.
The line-up of movies at The Film House are arthouse films, vintage classics, international films, well-written stories with great characters, and films that make you think, which is a nice change from the big multiplexes that show the latest Hollywood blockbusters and nothing else.
Visiting the Film House was also my first chance to see the inside of the St Catharines PAC. As of writing this I am yet to attend a show (but it is high on my to-do list).
It is such a beautiful space, with clean lines and minimalist aesthetics that attending a movie session here feels like a special occasion. And really, with all the HD and surround sound technology in our homes now, heading out to a cinema should feel like a special occasion.
