Hanging out on Ravine Winery’s patio is like hanging out a cool friend’s house… like, at a really cool friend’s house. You know, the one with the wood-fired pizza oven and a view of the grape vines. Okay, so maybe we don’t all have friends with houses like that, but the relaxed and friendly atmosphere here made us feel right at home.
It was a sunny Sunday afternoon when we visited, and we sat overlooking the stunning view of the vineyard on St. David’s Bench while the kids kicked soccer balls around the lawn and explored their surrounds. Just to cap off the lovely atmosphere, a talented acoustic duo played cover tunes on the lawn.
Local craft beer from Oast House and Silversmith breweries as well as Ravine’s own Lowry Bros. Ciders are available on tap. This cider is the driest I have tasted, and also my favourite. Crisp and delicious, it’s perfect over ice on a warm day. Plus, of course, Ravine’s lovely wines are available.
There are just two wood-fired pizzas on the menu: mozzarella and basil, and slow cooked beef spare rib with onions and green peppers.
It seems quality over quantity is the name of the game, as both are made with fresh produce from Ravine’s kitchen garden and locally-cured meats. They look and smell delicious, and are quickly devoured by everyone at our table.
If you are looking for more than pizza, Ravine’s restaurant is right next door and their seasonal menu also revolves around what’s in their organic kitchen garden.
Plus, there is a grocery where you can purchase Ravine’s beautiful pickled goods, cheeses from across Canada and fresh breads. They even have picnic baskets you can enjoy on the patio.
Take advantage of this great spot before the weather gets too cool. Ravine is a high recommend for a sunny afternoon chill session, dinner or pre-dinner drink. If you like to eat local and support local business, this family-run business is a great place to hang out and enjoy the very best of the region.
