You may have walked past their unassuming glass door on Lock Street, Port Dalhousie, before, but step inside Lock Street Brewing Co. and you will be pleasantly surprised.
On the day we visited, friendly bartenders greeted us on the main floor with a smile and were happy to chat while pouring fresh local brews made on site.
Beers on tap include Lock Street Brewing Company’s Sommer Weisse (wheat beer), Jealous Mistress (English brown ale with honey), 1867 Cream Ale, Carousel Red Ale (amber ale), Industrial Pale Ale, and Blown off Shore (a coconut vanilla stout).
They stock a small selection of local wines by Megaolmaniac and Rosewood Estates wineries, and we tasted a delicious dry cider by Creekside Estate.
Heading upstairs, exposed brick, eclectic art work, and simple wooden furniture adorn the interior, as well as couches for serious relaxing.
The balcony out the front of the building is perfect for enjoying the weather and people watching on Lock street, but, we had to take a trip past the fermenting tanks to explore the beer garden. We spent the afternoon in this blissful space, amongst the ivy and hop plants, sampling Lock Street Brewing Company’s beverages and pretending we were on vacation.
RIX Bistro, which occupy the other half of the building, supply pub favourites like Ale Fries and tasty-looking charcuterie boards for sharing.
I will definitely be back. There is live music and other quirky events like paint night, and yoga-and-beer night – check out the events section on their website. And, if you have trouble finding a spot to relax on Sunday or Monday when most places are closed, they are open all week long.
