Beechwood Doughnuts, St Catharines

Beechwood Doughnuts

This can’t be a blog about the best of St Catharines and the Niagara Region without a post about the locals’ favorite gourmet doughnut shop, Beechwood Doughnuts. However, I will admit something straight-up: I have not tried their doughnuts.

I am, unfortunately, not on good terms with gluten, and these divine-looking doughnuts are definitely not gluten free (if you’re looking for gluten-free baked goods in St Catharines see Edible Options). So, why would I post about them?

I have it on good authority that they are the best in the region at what they do, in fact, I heard about Beechwood Doughnuts from family and friends before I even moved to Canada from Australia.

They also fulfill my selection criteria for St Catharines Street without me even taking a bite: they are local, quality, unique, interesting, and visually enticing.

Beechwood is the Niagara Region’s first and only totally vegan doughnut shop. In fact, everything in their store from the drinks to the doughnuts is vegan.

According to my resident doughnut connoisseur (my husband), the team at Beechwood Doughnuts make scrumptious doughnuts that are light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness and a generous helping of creamy center. And, with a range of seasonal flavors like Strawberry Keylime, Coconut Cream, Lemon Poppy Seed, and Birthday Cake, I tend to believe him.

Since the store’s opening in early 2015, the quality and deliciousness of Beechwood’s doughnuts has spoken for itself, with locals lining up for their fix. They have also won multiple awards for their work and have outgrown their original location on James Street. From October 5th 2017 they will be found at a new, bigger location at 165 St Paul Street, St Catharines.

Beechwood also work with local charities to give back to the community and offer a discount to those who bring their own clean containers to take home their treats. Local, ethical, charitable, environmentally-minded, gorgeous and apparently delicious – Beechwood seems like an easy choice for a little indulgence.
