Chilero Mexican Taco Stand

Chilero

I am not much of an outlet mall shopper. I love to hang out downtown and support local business and, frankly, I find too much choice a tad stressful. But, it was an easy choice to head out to Outlet Collection at Niagara when I heard the team behind Wellington Court Restaurant and the Coach House at Henry of Pelham, Erik Peacock and Dale Camroux-Peacock, had opened a shipping container come taco stand.

Erik and Dale are well known for their fine dining establishments around St Catharines and the Niagara Region, and, according to their website, this busy duo just couldn’t turn down an opportunity to play with some of their favorite Mexican flavors with this new venture.

Chilero, a Guatemalan term meaning “damn awesome”, serves urban Mexican street food with a modern twist. It is fresh, full of flavor, color, and crunch.

On the day we visited the sun was shining and the courtyard between the shipping containers was an ideal spot to enjoy our Mexican fare. Faux grass, bean bags and lawn games made it perfect family fun with little ones, and the big people enjoyed the addition of Silversmith Brewing Company serving cold craft beers.

We tried the BBQ Pulled Pork Shoulder, Beef Barbecoa and Ancho Chicken tacos with avocado salsa verde and pickled vegetable slaw, plus the Chilero Nachos.

Everything was a what you would expect from an executive chef of Erik’s caliber. Fresh, simple, flavor combos that pack a punch and just the right amount of spice.

We will definitely back and next time probably with a group so we can take advantage of the “Eat it all” deal for $65, and try all the awesome this little shipping container has to offer.

Next time you are looking for an easy lunch or dinner out with family, it might be time to chill at Chilero.
